PATIENT SATISFACTION

Ultimately patient and referring physician satisfaction is required in the practice of medicine in order to maintain and grow a practice.  Referring physician and specialty consulting physicians have a mutual ethical obligation to provide the best patient care possible.  The practice provides specialized neuroscience services including neurosurgery, neurology, neuroimaging, neuroradiology, psychiatry, pain management, pain medicine, addiction medicine, musculoskeletal evaluation and treatment, and specialized positional neuroimaging services.  The practice is the first neurosurgery office in the world to offer positional open MRI imaging utilizing the Fonar standup MRI device.  This device along with T-lines, teleradiology, and Radworks™ technology has allowed the founder of the practice to provide and practice neuroimaging medicine at every location on a daily basis by reading MRI images of the nervous system regardless of his physical location at any one of the offices.  The practice was the first in Florence, London, Pikeville, and Hazard, Kentucky, and the first and only in these locations to offer American College of Radiology (ACR) accredited MRI imaging for patients in their private offices of the Spine and Brain Neurosurgical Center.  In addition, the practice has had each location accredited and receive a pain program accreditation award for each of the five locations by the American Academy of Pain Management accreditation program, and this has provided review of practice pain management and pain medicine protocols and diagnosis and treatment guidelines.  Since the majority of neurosurgical disorders may improve with conservative treatment such as home exercise programs, injective therapies utilizing pain management technology these services can be provided close to home in locations where these services are not readily available.   Thus, a patient 150 miles away in another clinic may have his ruptured disc diagnosed by the founder neuroimaging physician and have his treatment recommendation and block all provided locally without making 150 mile trip unless neurosurgery is indicated.  These solutions have improved patient satisfaction as well as referring physician satisfaction and currently the practice receives referrals from over 2000 referring physicians in central and eastern Kentucky as well as northern Tennessee, western West Virginia, and southern portion of southern Ohio.  In addition, neurologist and other neuroscience physicians rotate through each clinic on a regular and as needed basis to further enhance patient care.  The addition of telemedicine, telepsychiatry and teleaddiction medicine evaluation services to the already successful teleneuroimaging services provided on a daily basis by the founder will further enhance patient care reduce long drives for our patients.
